The European Fire Sprinkler Network is very supportive of the FSF position paper. Acting on behalf of all its members in this way is the purpose of the Fire Sector Federation. The paper makes powerful points, identifying failings in our current national approach to fire safety and making some excellent suggestions to improve matters. It also identifies fire safety challenges for particular focus that probably need additional research to define solutions.
The FSF is a broad church, with members from a wide range of activities. None is individually able to see or express the big picture, but this paper shows that by working together we can. Moreover, among the FSF members there is enormous expertise and knowledge that is available to help find solutions to our country’s fire safety problems. The EFSN is grateful that the FSF is taking this message to government.
The Grenfell Tower disaster punctured the UK’s reputation as a leader in fire safety. The subsequent inquiry, while shocking in what it has revealed, has also been excellent in the transparent way it has laid bare the failings. One cannot imagine any other country holding such an inquiry. Many people across the world have been following it and eyes are now on the UK to see how we react to its findings. The FSF is well-placed to gather industry input to that important process and rebuild trust in the fire safety of our buildings.
