Fire Policy responsibility moving from the Home Office to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Posted on February 19, 2025 - Latest News

Dear Stakeholder,

You may already be aware of the statement made last week in Parliament by the Prime Minister in response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 Report recommendation to bring responsibility for fire safety under one Secretary of State.  The statement confirmed that responsibility for fire will move from the Home Office to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

You can see the Written Ministerial Statement here: Written statements – Written questions, answers and statements – UK Parliament

I understand that, as stakeholders, you will have questions about what this means for future engagement. I want to confirm that there are no plans for any immediate change to the way officials work with you and that current planned engagement will remain in place, as will any messaging in relation to future plans for engagement.

I will continue to update you as the arrangements for the move develop. Please do reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Jenna Marsh

Deputy Director

Fire Safety Unit
