The Fire Sector Federation was deeply saddened to learn that Paul Fuller our former chairman passed away peacefully on Monday 7 June 2021 after a short illness.
Paul assisted in the foundation of the Federation and served as Deputy Chairman from the inauguration in 2013 until he became Chairman in 2017. Through his insightful leadership he instigated many changes including his own replacement as chairman in 2019 to ensure the Federation remained inclusive and reflective of the whole fire sector in the UK.
He continued his work within the Federation as our representative to the National Fire Chiefs Council whilst Chief Fire Officer of Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, an appointment he held for 19 years. Alongside those roles Paul chaired the Firefighters Charity and the Children’s Burns Trust and was active in fire service sport and had strong links with metropolitan fire chiefs in the USA.
Known as a real gentleman and character who has done so much for fire safety Paul was an inspirational leader who was greatly admired and respected for his wise and steady perspective on many difficult issues.
His passing is a significant loss to the fire sector but far more importantly it is an immeasurable loss to his family to whom we send our deepest condolences at this difficult time.
